چکیده

Clinically, biofilm-associated infections commonly form on intravascular catheters and other hydrogel surfaces. For example, annually in the United States, biofilms formed on intravascular catheters are linked to 250,000 blood stream infections with an associated mortality rate of 1225%. To inactivate microbes, antibacterial agents have been released from polymer catheters. However, the overuse of antibiotics to treat these infections has led to the spread of antibiotic resistance and underscores the importance of developing alternative strategies that delay the onset of biofilm formation. Thus, new, greener strategies that slow the rate by which bacteria attach to a surface without exerting evolutionary pressure on microorganisms are needed.

Application of Threshold Model with Various Tube Wall Temperatures for Crude Oil Preheat Train Fouling

The Propose of this paper is to introduce a new model for crude oil fouling in preheat trains of crude distillation unit. The experimental results of Australian light crude oil with the tube side surface temperatures between 200-260 oC and fluid velocity ranged 0.25 to 0.4m/s were used. The activation energy of chemical reaction depends on the surface temperature has been calcula...

Fouling and Rejection Characteristic of Humic Substances in Polysulfone Ultrafiltration Membrane

In this study, the ultrafiltration membrane for humic substance removal was prepared by blending polysulfone with a high concentration of PEG400 as additives. The influences of the additive to the fouling resistance capability and humic substances rejection of the polysulfone membrane were investigated. The addition of 35%wt of PEG400 concentration improved the pure water flux up to 200, but re...

A Review on Crude Oil Fouling and Mitigation Methods in Pre-heat Trains of Iranian Oil Refineries

Crude oil fouling of the equipment surfaces is a troublesome issue which leads to operating difficulties, economic penalties, increased environmental impacts, and health and safety hazards in petroleum industry. With a rough estimation, a minimum cost of equal to 4 million barrels of oil/year is required to be invested to offset the costs of crude oil fouling in Pre-heat Trains of Iranian oil r...

Mechanisms Involved in Osmotic Backwashing of Fouled Forward Osmosis (FO) Membranes

Organic matter leads to one of the biggest problems in membranes: fouling. Developing efficient cleaning processes is therefore crucial. This study systematically examines how alginic acid fouling formed under different physical and chemical conditions affect osmotic backwashing cleaning efficiency in forward osmosis (FO). The fouling layer thickness before and after osmotic backwashing was mea...

Study on the fouling behavior of HDPE/PE-g-MA/EVA blend membrane fabricated via thermally induced phase separation method

In this study, neat HDPE and HDPE/PE-g-MA/EVA blend membranes were fabricated via thermally induced phase separation (TIPS) method and their fouling behaviors were examined using filtration of BSA protein. Membranes were characterized using FESEM, AFM, ATR-FTIR analyses and porosity measurement. Fouling behavior of membranes was analyzed using the resistance-in-series (RIS), classic and combine...
